Need that GED?
Level 1:Adult Basic Education (ABE) – This class is for adults who need instruction in the three basic areas of reading, writing and math. The focus of this class is reading, however, basic math and writing skills are also taught. Reading instruction includes the fundamental skills of the reading process and comprehension, word study and analysis, analysis of text, inference and critical thinking.
Levels 2 and 3: Pre-GED - This class is for adults who need further improvement in the three basics to prepare them to take the Practice GED test. Students receive instruction in higher skill levels of reading, math and writing.
Level 4:GED – This class is for adults who read on a high school level. Students are evaluated and receive instruction in areas they need to improve in order to pass the Official GED tests. Instruction involves all five subject areas of reading, math, writing, science and social studies on the Official GED tests.
Diploma – This class is for adults who have completed three years of preparation for a state high school diploma and want to complete the remaining requirements for a diploma.
Remediation for Exit Exam – This class is for adults who need to pass HSAP – the exit exam required for a state high school diploma. Instruction is offered for both reading and writing on the English Language Arts portion of the test as well as math for the mathematics portion of the HSAP test.
English as a Second Language (ESL) – This class is for adults who lack proficiency in the English language. Their primary language is not English, and they want to be proficient in the English language in order to perform daily tasks at home and on the job.
Workplace Training – This class is for adults seeking a job but need the basic knowledge of the workplace skills in order to qualify for employment.
Para-Professional - This class is for adults needing to pass the ParaPro test to become a teacher's aide for the School District of Newberry County.
