Meet the Faculty & Staff

Debbie Ackerman: Ms. Ackerman teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies in the MD Self-Contained Special Education class.  She has a BS from Lander University and a Masters from Clemson University.  Mrs. Ackerman has been teaching for thirty-two years, twenty-three here at Newberry Middle.

Laura Adams:  Mrs. Adams began teaching in 1984.  She has a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Winthrop, a Master of Arts in Middle Level Science from the University of South Carolina, and is a National Board Certified teacher.  She came to NMS in 1985 and taught 8th grade science until 2006. She taught 4th grade science and social studies at Pomaria-Garmany for two years and is now back here teaching 7th grade science.  Mrs. Adams has been married for twenty-four years.

Babette Alderman:  Ms. Alderman teaches 8th grade English/Language Arts.  She has a BA from the University of North Carolina.  This is her nineteenth year at Newberry Middle.

Crystal ArboreMs. Arbore teaches 8th Grade South Carolina History.  She has a Masters from Stony Brook University in New York, where she was born and raised.  This is her second year teaching at Newberry Middle School. 

Cristin Atchison:  Mrs. Atchison is a 6th grade Social Studies teacher.  She has a BA in Political Science, Pre-law from South Carolina State University.  This is her fourth year teaching.

Rick Attaway:  Mr. Attaway teaches 6th grade math.  This is his thirteenth year teaching and his sixth year at Newberry Middle.  He also coaches football.

Frankie Bennett:  Mrs. Bennett received a BS and a M. Ed. from Winthrop University.  She has twenty-nine years of teaching experience.  Mrs. Bennett received National Board Certification in EA/Mathematics in 2005.  This is her fourth year at Newberry Middle School.  She and her husband have two children.

Kristin Caughman:  Ms. Caughman is the Band Director.  She has a Bachelors of Music Education from Newberry College and a Masters of Music Education from the University of South Carolina.  This is her fifth year at NMS.

Carol Charette: Mrs. Charette holds a BS in Elementary Education from Winona State University with a minor in Physical Education and a Coaching Certificate plus a near double-major in Art.  She received her Interdisciplinary Masters of Arts in Science Education from USC.  She also received an Associate degree from Piedmont Technical College in Computer Repair and Networking, a certificate in CISCO networking, and has her national certification in COMP TIA Computer Repair and Maintenance.  Mrs. Charette teaches Gateway Technology at NMS.

Teresa Coleman:  Mrs. Coleman is our School Library Media Specialist and a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Master of Library and Information Science.  This is her fifth year at Newberry Middle School.

Andrew Corbett Mr. Corbett graduated from Francis Marion University and is National Board Certified in Early Adolescent Social Studies.  He teaches 8th grade South Carolina History.  This is his twelfth year teaching.

Clayton Cotney Coach Cotney is teaching 8th grade Science.  He holds a BS from Clemson University.  He also coaches football.

Terry Crocker:  Mr. Crocker teaches 7th grade Social Studies.  He has a M. Ed. in Secondary Education from USC-Spartanburg and an Ed. S. in School Supervision from Converse College.  This is his seventeenth year in education and his first at NMS.

Cornelius Cromer:  Mr. Cromer has a B. S. in Biology from Wofford College.  This is his third year teaching 6th grade science at NMS.  He coaches football here at NMS and also serves as Assistant Athletic Director at Newberry High School and the head boys soccer coach at NHS.

Alicia Cureton:  Ms. Cureton teaches 6th grade ELA.  She has been teaching for 11 years.  This is her fourth year at NMS.  She has a Bachelor's degree from Newberry College and a Master's in Administration from Grand Canyon University.  She has two children. 

Leslie Davis:  Ms. Davis teaches 7th grade science.

Christopher Dukes:   Mr. Dukes teaches 6th grade Science.  This is his fifth year at Newberry Middle.  He graduated from Newberry College and holds a BS in Elementary Education.

Amanda Finley:  Mrs. Finley teaches 6th grade English and Language Arts.  She has her B.A. and M.A. from Covenant College.  Mrs. Finley has been teaching for thirteen years and they have all been here at Newberry Middle.  She sponsors the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Lori Frampton:  Mrs. Frampton teaches 7th grade English.  She graduated from Newberry College with a BA in English.  This is her her fourth year at Newberry Middle.  She serves as a Cheerleading Coach.

Marjorie Frana Ms. Frana teaches 6-8 grade ESOL classes.  She has a BA from Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan. She has taught in Puerto Rico, Colombia, Ohio, Illinois and South Carolina. This is her second year teaching at Newberry Middle School.

Polly Fulmer:  Ms. Fulmer is a special education assistant.

Brian Gordon:  Mr. Gordon teaches 8th grade Algebra 1/pre-Algebra and coaches football.  He has a BS in Math from St. Joseph's College.  He has been teaching for nine years, eight here at NMS.

Eiko Hendrix:  Ms. Hendrix teaches 6th grade Math.  She has a BS from the College of Charleston and a Masters from Southern Wesleyan University.  She has been teaching for thirteen years, all at NMS.

Tammy Hendrix:  Ms. Hendrix teaches 7th grade Math.  She's a graduate of Lander University in Early Childhood/Elementary Education and has been teaching here at NMS for thirteen years.  She is also sponsor of the Beta Club.

Candace Herron:  Mrs. Herron teaches self-contained Special Education.  She graduated from Newberry College with a degree in Elementary Education and Special Education.  She is also certified to teach Emotionally Disabled students.  Mrs. Herron holds a Masters in Educational Leadership from Winthrop University.  She and her husband Shane have two children.  This is her first year at NMS.

Marie Johnson: Mrs. Johnson is our Attendance Clerk.  She has been at NMS for twelve years.  She has three sons.

Charlene Kenley:  Mrs. Kenley is a Guidance Counselor.  She has a BA in Organizational Management from Claflin University and a Master of Education, Counselor Education from South Carolina State University.  This is her fifth year teaching.  She and her husband, Karl, have three children, Tierrney, Handy, and Zion.

Susan Lester:  Ms. Lester teaches 6th grade Social Studies.  She has been teaching for nineteen years, all here at Newberry Middle.  She is a National Board Certified teacher and sponsors the Beta Club.

Ben Long:  Mr. Long is an Assistant Principal.  Mr. Long has a BA from Newberry College in History and a M. Ed. from Clemson University in Educational Leadership.  He is married to Wendy Long and has two children.  This is his sixteenth year at Newberry Middle School and his seventh year as an Assistant Principal.

Lacey Long:  Miss Long teaches 7th grade Social Studies at NMS.  In 2007, she received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Presbyterian College.  She received her Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of South Carolina in 2009.  This is her second year in education.

Wendy Long:

Katherina Lyden:  Mrs. Lyden teaches sixth grade Math and Social Studies. This is her fourth year here at Newberry Middle School. She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with her Master's Degree. This is her twelfth year in education.

Ellen Mack:  Mrs. Mack graduated from Newberry High School.  She has worked for Newberry Schools for twenty years, thirteen at Newberry Middle.

Kerra Mays-FowlerMrs. Fowler received her B.S. in Computer Science and Minor in Math from South Carolina State University and a dual M.A. from Webster University in Information Management and Business. She teaches 7th grade Math. She has been teaching at NMS for four years.

Adena McCullough

Connie McMorris:  Mrs. McMorris teaches 7th grade Science at NMS.  She has been teaching for thirty years, twenty-one in Newberry (seventeen at NMS) and nine in Laurens District 55.  Mrs. McMorris has a B.A. degree in Elementary Education from Benedict College and a M.A. degree in Middle School Science from USC Columbia.  She and her husband, Keith, have three children:  Chelsea, Marcus, and Lonette.

Nicole Merrell :  Mrs. Merrell received a Bachelors of Fine Art from Clemson University.  She is a member of the Metropolitan Arts Council and the South Carolina Art Education Association. She also sponsors the Art Club.  This is her third year at NMS.

Kim Miles:  Mrs. Miles teaches Resource.  She has a Masters from Southern Wesleyan University.  Ms. Miles has been teaching for sixteen years, all of them here at Newberry Middle. 

Michelle Morris:  Mrs. Morris teaches Resource.  She is a graduate of Newberry College and has been teaching for nine and a half years.  She and her husband, Dave, have two children, Drew and Benjamin.

Krystal Neeley:  Mrs. Neeley graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor's in English writing and a Master's in Elementary Education. This is her fourth year at Newberry Middle School teaching sixth grade science and social studies.

Charlene Pitts:  Mrs. Pitts teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Health and 8th grade Journalism/Yearbook.  She has a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Elementary Education from Lander University.  Mrs. Pitts has been teaching for thirty-three years, nine here at NMS.  She also sponsors the Yearbook.

Dena Pollard:   Mrs. Pollard is a Special Education Instructional Assistant.  She has been working with Mrs. Ackerman at Newberry Middle School for ten years

Codie Ruff:  Ms. Ruff is a graduate of Clemson University.  She has eleven years teaching experience.  This is her second year at Newberry Middle.

Roberta Rush:  Mrs. Rush teaches 7th grade English/Language Arts.  She has a Bachelor of Music from Furman University and is elementary, Language Arts, and K-12 Music certified.  She also has the Gifted and Talented endorsement.  Mrs. Rush has been teaching for twenty-two years, eighteen at NMS.

Jurgen Schnackenberg:  Mr. Schnackenberg teaches 8th grade science.  He is certified in regular education, special education, and administratin.  He has been teaching in Newberry for twelve years.  This is his first year at Newberry Middle.  He and his wife, Melissa, have three children.

Kelli Seegars:  Ms. Seegars is an Assistant Principal here at NMS.  She has a BA in Secondary Education/Social Sciences from Clemson University and a M. Ed. in Educational Leadership from Winthrop University.

Laura Sellers

Lauren Senn Mrs. Senn teaches 7th grade Math (Pre-Algebra). This is her fourth year teaching and third year at NMS. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Newberry College in 2006.

Willie Shepard:  Mr. Shepard is one of our guidance counselors.  He has a Bachelor of Science from South Carolina State University and also has further studies with the University of South Carolina and Clemson University.  

Katrina Singletary:  Ms. Singletary is Principal of Newberry Middle.  She has a BA from the College of Charleston and a M. Ed. from Columbia College.  She has previously served as an English teacher for five years and an Administrative Assistant for Curriculum and Instruction for two years.  This is her fifth year as NMS Principal.

April Sontag

Jessica Sosa:  Ms. Sosa teaches Chorus. 

Gregory Stewart:  Mr. Stewart is the STOP supervisor at NMS. 

Lindsey Stribble:  Mr. Stribble has been teaching and coaching at Newberry Middle and Newberry High School for eleven years.  He is a graduate of Newberry College and also has his Masters in Sports Management from the United States Sports Academy.  He is the Athletic Director at NMS, Head Coach for Junior Varsity football, and Head Coach for Junior Varsity baseball.  Coach Stribble is married and has two children, Colin and Maddox.

Tavy Stribble:  Ms. Stribble has been teaching at Newberry Middle School for twenty-two years.  She has a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Winthrop University and her Masters in Sports Management from the United States Sports Academy.  Ms. Stribble also has her Masters plus 30 in Sports Management.  She has coached JV softball and Varsity volleyball at Newberry High School and coaches volleyball at NMS.

Ashley Washington

Ginger Weir: Mrs. Weir is our media center assistant.

Tracy Werts:  Mrs. Werts graduated from Piedmont Technical College in 1982 and is a Licensed Practical Nurse.  She has been a Newberry County School Nurse since 2005.

Eric Willingham:  Mr. Willingham teaches 7th grade Social Studies.  He has a BA in History from The Citadel, a M. Ed. in Secondary Social Sciences from North Georgia College and State University, and a M. Ed. in Secondary School Administration from the University of South Carolina.  This is his fourteenth year teaching and his sixth at Newberry Middle. 

Sara Wilson: 

Debbie Yandle: Mrs. Yandle serves as Secretary to our Principal as well as the school's bookkeeper.  She graduated from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.  She and her husband have four children as well as two grandchildren.

Joan Zoellner:  Mrs. Zoellner teaches reading at NMS.  She has a B.A. in Elementary Education with a minor in Voice. She also has her M. Ed. in Community and Occupational Programs in Education and her Masters + 30 in Reading.  She also served in the US Army.  This will be her twenty-seventh year in education.  She has one daughter, Jennifer.
