Mrs. Tina Johnson, School Counselor

I am Tina Johnson and I have been the school counselor for two years at Newberry Elementary.  I am in charge of the SC Comprehensive Developmental Guidance and Counseling Program.  Services provided through this program are classroom guidance lessons, responsive services, individual and small group counseling, individual planning, and system support which is when we work with the community and parents.  I am proud to say that Newberry College is a terrific community resource in which we cooperate in the Service Based Learning program that involves students to mentor in the after school program as well as providing on the job training in which teachers mentor the college students in the classroom.

Students at Newberry Elementary participate in programs such as the Beta Club, visiting the nursing homes, Manna House food drive, Pennies for Patients for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, safety patrol mentors, career fairs, safety lessons and drug prevention programs.  I provide a weekly segment on WNES Channel 5 news in which I introduce character words that incorporate character pillars.  I have two children and I live in Greenwood.  I have taught third and fourth grade, special education and I have worked as a Licensed Master Social Worker for 14 years as a counselor and social worker.  I have taught classes at Piedmont Technical College and adult ed classes.   I enjoy working with children, playing tennis, traveling, dancing, playing the clarinet and I am the music director for my church in Greenwood.  I am a member of the American School Counselor’s Association, the SC Counselor’s Association and a member of the National Board of Cognitive Behavioral Therapist.
