Family Literacy in Newberry:

Family Literacy is imperative in creating a foundation for children's learning experiences, and it starts with the parents.  According to a study, a child's brain develops at a rapid rate during their early years.  By age 3, the brain has reached 80% of its adult size.  Your child's experiences during these years will determine the organizational and functional status of his/her mature brain.  Parents teach their children how to navigate the world.  The Newberry Family Literacy Team acts as mentors to assist parents in their role as their child's first and most important teacher.  We encourage and model strategies to enhance development of the child's social, emotional, physical and cognitive skills.

Our program is driven by comprehensive approaches to education in which parents and children learn and grow together.  Certified parent educators provide individualized age-appropriate strategies and books to meet the needs of each child in the program.  We provide parent-initiated and child-initiated activities to support development of those relationships and to increase the motivation to learn for both parent and child.
