Gabie Folk - NES Teacher of the Year

Congratulations Gabie Folk - Newberry Elementary Teacher of the Year!

"I love working in education, because I feel that we are change-makers! It’s the 'a-ha' moments for me. I love the opportunity to turn others’ passion into their purpose! My favorite part of education is instilling confidence and skills in students that will make them flourish and thrive both in the classroom, and in the community."

HIGH SCHOOL: Newberry High School

COLLEGE: Newberry College

YEARS IN EDUCATION: 19

FAVORITE BOOK: The Invisible Boy

HOBBIES: I love fishing, cutting grass, and spending time with my family and friends.

IF I WEREN’T A TEACHER, I WOULD BE...

a Social Worker or VET

FAVORITE TEACHERS: Mrs. Gibson, Mrs. Derrick, & Mrs. Paysinger were of equal importance to me! Each of them were so creative and had such caring hearts! They made learning so much fun! They nurtured my curiosity and creativity each and every day in their classroom. I remember their reading voice and how animated they became as they read to us! Each book came to life inside those four walls. I enjoyed every single minute of learning with them!

FAVORITE SUBJECTS TO TEACH: My two favorite subjects to teach are Reading and Science. It's so hard to choose a particular topic, lesson, or book when both of these subjects bring learning to life in so many different ways!
