Emily Liptak - NHS Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Dr. Emily Liptak - Newberry High School Teacher of the Year!

"My favorite thing about working in Newberry county is the small community feel and the idea administration on all levels are personal with teachers, staff, and students. In addition, teachers of like subjects across the district work together for the common good of our students throughout the county."

HOMETOWN: Johnsonville

HIGH SCHOOL: Johnsonville High School

COLLEGE: Newberry College

YEARS IN EDUCATION: 17

FAVORITE BOOK: Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.

HOBBIES: Outside of teaching and chasing around 3 year old twins, I enjoy reading, cooking, and making memories with family and friends.

IF I WEREN’T A TEACHER...I've honestly never dreamed or thought about being anything else besides a teacher. I believe in the saying of "if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life."

FAVORITE TEACHER: My favorite teacher was my 7th grade Pre-Algebra teacher Mrs. Janet Stuckey. She impacted me as she allowed me to find my talents in learning and liking mathematics. Mrs. Stuckey built relationships with all her students and knew how to make learning math fun. Throughout her class, it was evident that Mrs. Stuckey loved her job and made teaching look exciting. From her class on, I was able to find the joys within mathematics, and knew I wanted to be a loving, supportive, and fun teacher just like Mrs. Stuckey.

ADVICE FOR STUDENTS: One piece of advice I share with my students is to always have a growth mindset and never stop learning, to keep fighting to reach your potential, and to be the best authors of their life story.
