Twenty elementary school students from the School District of Newberry County joined Kathleen Swinney, representatives from Clemson's College of Education, Scholastic, The Clemson Tiger, Clifford the Big Red Dog, DJ Uiagalelei, Tyler Venables, and Hunter Helms to celebrate Tigers Read. The celebration was held in the indoor practice facility. Every child received a bag full of books and Uiagalelei, Venables, and Helms read We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. These athletes also spoke about why reading is important to each of them. The initiative is sponsored by Dabo Swinney's All In Team Foundation and has delivered customized Scholastic book packs to nearly 1,200 students across the state of South Carolina. These books will help to prevent the decline in reading skills many students experience during the summer months. Our students represented the School District of Newberry County well and were excited to participate.

All students in grades K-12 brought home a letter on May 3 with information regarding access to a parent survey.
The South Carolina Department of Education partners with the Education Oversight Committee to deliver a parent survey. The responses to the survey are collected and combined with other parent responses to provide information to the school and district leadership about how parents feel about the school.
The letter explains one way for parents to access the parent survey. The letter contains a QR code that can be scanned with a cell phone. All other information needed to complete the parent survey is printed across the bottom of the letter. Each student in the home will receive a letter specific to the student and school.
A second option for accessing the survey is through the parent portal. Directions for parents on how to use the mobile app are located on the district website under News Items.
We encourage you to take a few minutes to complete the survey and thank you in advance for your time.

The School District of Newberry County has updated its isolation and quarantine procedures to add a section on the impact the Test to Stay Option has on athletics:
The primary goal of the TTS program is to keep students in the classroom in-person safely. However, when a student is returning to school for days 6-10 after five days of isolation/quarantine or remaining in school using the Test To Stay program, in order for them to participate in an extracurricular activity or sport, they must be able to consistently mask and/or remain more than 6 feet from others during the entire time. If this cannot be accomplished, then the participant should be excluded from the activity/sport through day 10 after exposure.
