The School District of Newberry County will no longer send non-close contact letters to parents informing them that a case of COVID-19 was identified in our schools. We will continue to inform parents if their child has been identified as a close contact (within 6 feet for 15 or more cumulative minutes). Please be reminded that you can access information regarding COVID-19 activity in our district on the COVID-19 Dashboard located on the District’s webpage.
The School District of Newberry County continues to remind parents to self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms each morning prior to coming to school. If your child displays any of the following symptoms, tests positive, or is identified as a household contact or close contact, please complete the COVID-19 questionnaire located on your child’s school website and a school nurse will follow up with you.
COVID-19 Symptoms:
o Any one of these with or without fever:
New or worsening cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Loss of taste or smell
o OR two (2) of the following:
Sore throat
Muscle Aches
Chills
Fatigue
Headache
Congestion or runny nose
Diarrhea
Nausea or vomiting
It is important that we all maintain heightened awareness as it pertains to monitoring for symptoms, maintaining social distancing and wearing masks as any of us can be around a positive case in any situation in our lives and not know it. The School District of Newberry County will remain on schedule for resuming four days of face to face instruction. The following schedule outlines the dates students will return:
January 5 – students in the Tuesday/Friday group will return to schools this day.
January 6 – Virtual learning day for all students.
January 7 – Grades PK-5 will begin four days of face to face instruction. (Grades 6-12 M/Th group will return on this date and students will remain in their two hybrid groups (M/Th or Tu/F) until their scheduled return date).
January 14 – Grades 6-8 will begin four days of face to face instruction (Grades 9-12 will remain in their two hybrid groups until their scheduled return date).
January 22 – Grades 9-12 will begin four days of face to face instruction.
The four days of instruction will be Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Wednesdays will remain a virtual day for all students.
Students who are transitioning from Newberry ONE to face to face instruction will do so on their grade level’s designated date as listed above.
The Board voted to implement this phased in approach to face to face instruction at the October 29, 2020, Board Meeting.

Parents/Guardians please continue to self screen children prior to coming to school and if they have been a close contact to a positive case within the past 14 days or are showing symptoms as outlined in the toolkit, please do not send child to school and notify the school nurse.

Jan. 5 - Face to Face learning for Group 2 students only (these are students that have been attending on Tuesdays and Fridays)
Group 1 (Monday/Thursday students will have an at home learning day)

Jan. 7 - Semester 2 for Elementary students begins.
We welcome back ALL face to face students as we begin our 4 day Face to Face learning plan (this includes all students that were previously face to face in both group 1 and group 2 that chose to remain face to face and students that have been approved to return to face to face learning that were previously virtual)
Reminder: Dismissal tomorrow (Dec 18) is 11:00 am for students that come to school on Friday. Winter Holiday Break Dec 21 - Jan 4.

Interim Reports will be sent home with hybrid students Monday Nov 23 and Tuesday Nov 24. Virtual students can come by either day 7:30 am - 3:30 pm to pick up interim reports in the office.
Virtual students can come by the school Wednesday November 4 8am -3pm to pick up report cards.
Face to face students will receive report cards on Thursday November 5 and Friday November 6.
Reminder: No School Monday, Nov 2 due to Parent/Teacher Conferences. All conferences will be held via phone or virtually. No school Tuesday, Nov 3 in observance of Election Day. Wednesday, Nov 4 is a virtual learning day for all students and student work should be completed at home.

The transition will occur in multiple phases, beginning with students in elementary grades and students with special learning needs.
