NHS is hosting a Parent University on Dec. 2nd.

Newberry Middle School is proud to recognize three outstanding students—Za Nyrii Evans, Quang Minh Bui, and Aaron Luz—for being named South Carolina Junior Scholars!

To qualify for this honor, students must earn a score of 550 or higher on the Evidence-Based Reading & Writing section of the PSAT/NMSQT, or a score of 530 or higher on the Math section. These students have demonstrated remarkable academic excellence and dedication to their studies.

To celebrate their achievement, each Junior Scholar was awarded their favorite meal from Zaxby’s, compliments of Mr. Reid. Students also received a commemorative plaque to honor this exceptional accomplishment. Parents were invited to a special celebration held in the media center, where they were also treated to a meal provided by Mr. Reid and the NMS Administrative Staff.

A special thank you to Dr. Leroy York and the NMS Faculty who dedicated their time to hosting after-school prep sessions in preparation for this year’s PSAT. Your commitment and support played a meaningful role in helping our students succeed.

Congratulations to Mrs. Anita Basnight! 🎉

We are proud to announce that Mrs. Basnight has been named Newberry Middle School’s Distinguished Literacy Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Basnight will be among other school level winners for the opportunity for District Distinguished Literacy Teacher of the Year!

Mrs. Basnight achieved the highest student growth in Read 180 for the 2024–2025 school year. A former ELA teacher and the current Read 180 teacher in our Related Arts/Academic Arts classes, she brings over 28 years of teaching experience and a deep commitment to student success. In addition to her teaching excellence, she also serves as the Related Arts Team Department Chair, where she continues to inspire both students and colleagues.
